Patella Tendinitis/Tendinosis (Jumper's Knee) - Treatment

Sonocur® therapy is often very effective in the treatment of patellar tendinitis/tendinosis. Maximal effectiveness (75-80%) is most likely to occur when the painful area is at a specific point over the affected site. Generalized, non-localized knee pain should not usually be treated with Sonocur® therapy.

As with Achilles tendinitis/tendinosis, steroid injections are not usually given because of the risk of tendon rupture. Sonocur® therapy has often been effective in those with localized pain. As with other conditions, additional adjunctive measures may also be needed.

Conventional treatment includes:

  • Rest, ice, compression, and elevation in acute stage.
  • Modification of activity
  • Braces, wraps
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) (e.g.,Naprosyn, Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, Alleve, Asprin etc.), Cox inhibitors (Celebrex, etc.)
  • Physiotherapy
  • Surgery (rarely needed)
